The HH-53C Jolly Green was developed by Sikorsky as a variant of the CH-53 Sea Stallion heavy helicopter. It entered service with the US Air Force in the late 1960s. It was designed to carry out the CSAR missions of "Search and Rescue" in combat zones with great operational efficiency. Compared to the previous version, it was equipped with a probe for refueling in flight, additional tanks, reinforced armoring and the possibility of being equipped with additional defensive armament.
