Product description
Product Description The heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis was commissioned at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on November 15, 1932. On the day of the start of war in the Pacific (7.12.1941), the Indianapolis participated in an exercise as flagship of the Scouting Force US Fleet. In March 1943, she became the flagship of Task Force 58, which consisted of 130,000 naval and army troops and was under the command of Admiral Raymond Ames Spruance, Commander Fifth Fleet. The Indianapolis led the giant fleet and was involved in most major battles in the Central Pacific. In March 1945, the ship was severely damaged and returned to the dock to Mare Island for repair. During the two-month repair, all equipment has been brought up to date. After the repairs, the Indianapolis picked up secret cargo and personnel in San Francisco and made its way to Tinian Island on July 16, where a B29 bomber base was located. On July 26, she ran in there to unload the cargo and personnel. Four days later, the Indianapolis was torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-58 and sank after two hits. Safety Warning Safety note: not suitable for children under 14 years.
